Once a tree is removed from a property, the stump remains. Ever since the first tree was felled, there has always been the issue of, “what to do with the stump”. Do not worry about the removal of your stump after tree removal, Fullerton Tree Services is here to deal with that stump!
A stump can be ground out using a stump grinding machine & operator. The most important detail when considering removing a tree stump is the accessibility. If a tree stump is on a hill, it might not be accessible for a stump machine to grind it out. There are many scenarios that can alter stump grinding. Fences, landscape, patios, stairs, structures, and slopes all need to be considered for the stump machine accessibility.
Stump Removal EquipmentStump grinding machines are very efficient if they can access a tree stump for removal. They are configured with a grinding wheel that has teeth. The wheel spins and is operated with hydraulics back and forth to slowly grind a stump. A stump is usually ground out to a depth of approximately 20″ below ground. Most of the time, a new tree can be planted right in the same spot where the stump previously existed and was ground out.
Stump grindings & shavings – post grindingAfter a tree stump is ground out, stump grindings or shavings can be left in a pile in the hold, or hauled away. Usually there is an extra charge for the stump grindings to be hauled away. Large stumps that are ground out can leave a huge pile of grindings so please be aware and make sure to discuss this detail with an estimator.
Surface RootsSurface roots are another option to be ground. Maple trees are notorious for having surface roots, especially in a yard with some erosion or water issues. The root system in a tree is very critical to tree healthy. Any cutting of a trees roots can cause a tree to go into decline rapidly. Consult an arborist to discuss options if a tree can be saved upon cutting its roots. Many times, if roots need to be cut or pruned, the tree will need to be removed in its entirety. Grinding surface roots is another separate cost aside from grinding a tree stump.
Underground UtilitiesIt is necessary when hiring a company to grind stumps to call Miss Utility to mark all underground utility lines. Our company does this for our customers. Sometimes it takes 3-5 business days for Miss Utility to come out and mark the ground.
When to expect the Stump Crew upon approved work ordersGenerally, stump crews are a separate crew than the tree crew. Rarely, the stumps from a tree removal job will be done the same day as the removal itself. Stumps to be ground out from a tree removal job are generally completed 3-5 business days after the tree job is complete. Fullerton Tree Services has separate stump crews, and sometimes get behind due to inclement weather. Work is completed in the order the jobs are approved and completed.
Scheduling Delays Weather PermittingWhen the ground is wet, the 5,000 lb stump machines should not be put on a customers yard. This is generally the case after a heavy wet rain storm. Light rains that occur after dry periods allow for a stump job to be completed. Stumps that are in backyards are tough to get when it rains, and will need to wait to be completed once the ground is dry. Stumps in close proximity to driveways and the street are OK to grind when its wet.
Call A Specialist, Call for experienceCutting down & removing a tree is only half of a tree removal job, the remaining stump must be dealt with as well.
As mentioned, a tree stump can be disposed of in one of two ways, removal or grinding. Depending on the size of a tree, the extent of its root system and other considerations, you may choose either of those options to remove an unsightly stump from your property.
Fullerton Tree Services has the equipment and expertise to remove or grind stumps for trees of any size. Stump removal involves cutting off the root system, then digging the bulk of the stump out and lifting it away with a crane.
Removal can be difficult or impossible with large and old trees, which have root systems that are just too hard to take out.
However, stump grinding lets you avoid having to dig, after cutting off all the parts of the tree that we can remove by conventional means, we then use a machine to grind and shred the stump into mulch and chips. Afterwards, the stump gets covered by soil or fertilizer, and that’s the last you will see of it. The chips that result from the grinding operation can be used as mulch or decoration for the rest of your yard.
Stump removal isn’t always the result of a planned tree-cutting operation , for example, when a tree falls on its own as a result of age or bad weather, all or part of the root system can get wrenched out of the ground, in which case it needs to be disposed of along with the rest of the tree. In such a situation, nature has already done much of the work; fallen tree removals involve some of the more straightforward stump removal jobs, as long as they are handled with care (cutting the tree trunk without securing the root system may cause the latter to suddenly tip back into the ground hole, complicating the removal or even causing harm to equipment or people).
